Dear fellow IMCistas
I'm glad to see the discussion started up again on this. There were
some good ideas and points made last month from a lot of people.
Is there some one on this list serve with the technical knowledge that
can sum up how to proceed so we can realize this?
I'm not a techie but what I gather from past discussion is that we can
do this.
From what I remember there are there main things to figure out.
1. Connection from the field to the local IMC server.
2. Live feed to the server from the field.
3. Live stream from the server via the web site out to the internet.
For the connection from the field there were two ideas:
1. Video cam or webcam to laptop to open WIFI network in the area to
server.
2. Cam to laptop to cell phone network to server.
For the reporter in the field: the live feed to local server needs some
kind of user login page with buttons to click on to start the feed and
also disk space allocation on the server for the video data.
For streaming: some kind of software like Icecast or a custom Java
script is needed.
Also a link from the local IMC home page to a live video page where the
streaming is viewed by the user is needed.
I think a hacklab work session is needed for us to make progress on
this. I'm in Los Angeles and would be happy to help facilitate some
kind of regional meet up for IMC collectives who want to work on this.
