[IMC-Video] video streaming discussion...

the two easy ways to do this seem to be icecast as the server, with VLC
as the viewer, or else use a mac to stream the video via quicktime
broadcaster to Darwin streaming server. A live quicktime stream can be
viewed by quicktime, realplayer or VLC. you can use quicktime
broadcaster to stream 3g video which theoretically people can watch on
their cellphones.

I'd still recommend the cell connection if you're in a metro area with
broadband cell internet service.. it's more robust. wifi does have more
bandwidth than cell, but the typical upstream DSL line has limited
upload bandwidth anyways so wifi doesn't help too much.

as far as linking from website to video, usually people would link to
a metafile. I don't know if its feasible to embed ogg video since so
few people have a VLC browser plugin.

if you're doing quicktime you can embed quicktime video and/or link to a
quicktime metafile. you can also use SMIL to make your own custom
interface, which can be viewed in a player or embedded in a browser.
