And there are a few people working on drupal based
solutions - it's slow going at the moment - partly i
think because drupal keeps moving so quickly that
people don't want to do a lot of work modifying
exising modules when other people are doing that
already.

there is a develloper working on the
http://ifiwatch.tv site to replicate that in drupal
and add some functionality - and then i'll do the same
with clearerchannel.org -

Just to recap for anyone who hasn't been following
this thread - as far as i can see this a really quick
basic summary is what we want.

a) an upload to archive.org facility for people with
out hosting / bittorrent
b) ability for the site to include feeds with media
enclosures and present their videos on the site
grouped by author and tags / keywords and to be able
search all of them
[ie a good aggregation module that can deal with
enclosures - this could be the new version of
SimpleFeed for drupal]

i would invite people interested in this process to
join the transmission drupal mailing list.

here are the developper for ifiwatch project's latest
thoughts

Handling enclosure
I found out that developers of an aggregation tool
(core of Simplefeed) are working to officially support
enclosure in the next version (which should be
released hopefully in a couple of months). I believe
it is wise to have them complete the task because if
the function is officially supported, it will be
maintained by the community. In contrast, if I
implement the same function, some maintenance cost
will incur every time the module is updated.

Tagging
I realised adherence to Keywords (incl. Topic etc.)
used in IFIwatchnet.org is not ideal for the following
reasons:

- Keywords are not standardised among other sites. As
you aggregate feeds from a number of websites, their
feed items will most likely be tagged with words that
are not found in Keywords.

- Current search is based on Keywords. This means feed
items that are not tagged with words in Keywords will
be excluded from the search result and 'Related
resources' block.

- The only way to apply Keywords to feed items is to
manually tag them as items are aggregated, which will
be an arduous work

With free tagging, you will still be able to tag video
metadata and feeds with existing Keywords, but also
utilise new tags. Content can be searched with 'Refine
by Taxonomy' module, with which you can choose
multiple tags to narrow down your search result and
also save the result as a feed.
