hello mark and imc-video list,

Thats a very good report :) I would be interested to be included on the
imc-video list. Also this indyTube sounds like a good idea ;) (is
development being coordinated on the imc-video list? ... I would be
happy to adapt mv_embed to indyTubes needs... also mv_embed has expanded
to support playlists and some basic metadata stuff.

There is a W3C video meeting end of next week.
http://www.w3.org/2007/08/video/
We will be pushing for standardization around ogg theora for
container/codec and annodex CMML for inter-stream timed metadata.
Ofcourse apple, nokia and adobe will be there as well so we will see how
far we get ;)... Their goal is to make the standards codec agnostic like
they successfully lobbied to do with the html5 spec ..so that just
"recommends" ogg theora rather than "requires". Which lets them push
their respective proprietary formats...But we should be able to add
plugins to IE and safari and or push harder on adoption of firefox 3
with ~cool~ online video applications that will "look best with" ff3 ;)

On implementation front we should be investing into projects like
indyTube... once the free formats get out there some of the
technological challenges they address like standardized metadata and
easy reuse of footage should given them some advantages over
encapsulated flash video and be more decentralization friendly...Similar
to how blogs/news is ~mostly~ decentralized today... For something like
indyTube it may be good to look at the mediawiki transcription software
I am working on... since one of its practical applications could be
community multi-lingual translation of published video clips... I will
be setting up a demo selecting transcripts layers for w3c meeting... so
I will email that to imc-video list once I get it working :)

peace,
--michael
