One thing I'd mention is that I haven't found a FLOSS video player
with fine grain control of video playback, including frame advance
and frame reverse. in other words, a GUI equivalent of a
jog/shuttle dial.
VLC is built as a network player and not as a local media player.
In my case this is needed for a courtroom presentation. But could
also be useful in screen capturing and other day-to-day usage.
