cool :)
because of this i've added some details to the page
discussing possibilities for a new video.indymedia.org
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewVideoIndymediaOrgProposal#Background_and_History_of_video
It's a bit of a summary of information here
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/ImcVideoServerHelp
and other info that i've learnt.
please do add to it.
here's what there is so far
--//--
Brief Overview of current situation.
The server for the IVDN project was no longer usable
from 2007. So for a lot of that year the downloads for
the video.indymedia.org site were disabled.
The data got moved to the bolobolo server, and mirrors
were asked for. There is now one mirror and downloads
are enabled again.
Pros and cons of current system.
Pros:
* Uses static HTML which is quick to serve pages
up.
* Uses ftp uploads which is more stable than HTTP
uploads, so can deal with large files.
* Has a mirroring system in place for http
downloads which can share bandwidth
Cons:
* No admin section so removals have to be made on a
back end/ database level and no possibility for
editorialising new exciting videos - like existing
middle column features on other imc sites
* No thumbnails of video, not visually attractive
* Categories are only in German and not really used
for searches
* No creation of media feeds based on author or
category
* No bittorrent option working so far
