i guess this is part of the problem.. we don't even know 
what our goal is or how many different sites we're working 
on.

with drupal there are already various modules and APIs for 
aggregation and media publishing.  you could do all this 
functionality in one site if u wanted.  maybe it's similar 
in plone too.

how would aggregation work anyways -- what if something cool 
is uploaded to archive.org.  u don't want to aggregate 
everything from archive.org, so seems like there also has to 
be a manual step of creating content on the aggregation 
site.

i'd see one site with three functions: video uploads (via 
web browser and with java uploader or ftp), publishing an 
entry for a video that lives on some other site (this could 
be automated in many cases so u enter url and it pulls in 
thumbnail, metadata, embed code etc.), and aggregating rss 
2.0 feed items from "trusted" sites (indymedia and others) 
-- these would be indexed so content of all three types 
could be searched and browsed.
