[IMC-Video] Plumi

Hi Mick,

I guess the way I see it (and I can't speak for the EngageMedia 
collective here, just my opinion) our role in supporting a 
video.indymedia.org site using Plumi would be to continue to maintain 
and coordinate the software as we are now and continue to be the major 
contributors to its development.

I don't think a video.indymedia.org built on Plumi would be viable 
unless another collective emerged who wished to build it. Such a group 
would have a lot of support from ourselves and the growing Plumi 
developer community in terms of development of the Plumi code and 
advice, but would have to be able to customise the software themselves 
to create the site (and content development, project management).

There are potentially developers out there with the skills to make this 
happen, but you might have to broaden the search a little wider than 
existing IMC developers who seem to mainly use PHP rather than Python / 
Zope / Plone.

I think it would be counter-productive for us to pitch in with more 
support than this at this stage, as it would not be something we could 
sustain into the future given our own workloads with EngageMedia.org / 
Plumi and I wouldn't want to see the project fail when we withdrew our 
initial support.

So in some ways I think Drupal is a better choice as there appears to be 
more developers familiar with this platform in Indymedia circles. On the 
other hand I think Plumi is a powerful platform and is ready to go now 
with minimal customisation to create a publishing site. It could be 
expanded in terms of aggregation also, though inbound RSS feeds have not 
been a strong point in Plone to date there are apparently big 
improvements here in Plone 3 and new products (modules) for Plone 3.

It really depends on what kind of site video.indymedia.org should be. I 
think simply a big aggregation site bringing in feeds or content within 
feeds tagged "indymedia" could be the most successful idea and if so you 
wouldn't pick Plone to build that on unless your developers were in love 
with it :)

I guess a wiki page speccing out what people want to build, and the 
roles required to fill to make that happen would be a good start. Of 
course, what can be built will depend upon the skills and resources 
available.
