this has not been my experience with Miro, unfortunately :( it tends to
download multiple copies of videos that are present in more than one feed.
btw, great work mick, the aggregator looks great. what would need to be
done to this software to add full media publishing functionality? just a
media server to host the files?
this looks like a video.indymedia.org v2.0.1beta to me! others? maybe
i'm jumping ahead...
a graphics re-design perhaps to accommodate some links to help pages and
sites whose feeds are featured etc., and media hosting ability, would
seem to answer the basic needs of a video.indy as far as i can see. as
its built with Drupal, you could presumably add functionality as you go
in a sustainable way - given the wide support of Drupal as a CMS and the
availability of developers with Drupal skills.
for example you could add transcoding and playback of Ogg in the browser
at a later stage. you could leave off publishing on the site to a later
stage also, or even create a separate site or software for doing this
task, paying strict attention to security and anonymity issues (and then
just add the feed).
finally - is there an easy interface for adding feeds to the mix, will
this be a simple thing for a collective managing the site to do, going
forward? the other thing that we find useful as far as managing
EngageMedia.org is that we are sent automatic emails when content is
published. this is forwarded to the reviewers email-list for checking
and discussion. maybe another system to flag content that's already been
moderated would be useful...?
i wonder if you could bring the content from the old video.indy site
archive in a feed also... would this solve the problem of migrating the
old videos? publish one feed and save it, you could then put the old
site offline, just keeping the feed and media files available...
cheers,
anna
