Indymedia for Wales
Hi Mair and everyone
I'm sending this to the wales indymedia list (the one that's working on a regional site within uk
indymedia) and to some other people not on the list who've said they may be interested in helping
with this project.
Mair asked what the next step is now in getting this up and running.
I think that's up to us really, but it would be really helpful if people could have a look through
some of indymedia uk documentation, because this gives a good feel for how it all works. If you go
to https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/ImcUk, there's lots of useful information, especially on
this page: https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/UkNetworkSnapshot.
Some of the practical things that need to be decided/done are (just the things I could think of -
there may well be more):
- design and agree on a home page for wales (we can use a template from another region as a starting
point) Alan was going to do some preparatory work on this, but I haven't heard from him so not sure
if he's still able to do this. If you're reading this, Alan, maybe you can let us know what the
situation is.
- work out how we're going to make the site accessible to people whose first or preferred language
is Welsh.
- have a few members of the group who can learn how to do admin/moderation and share this knowledge
with other people.
- think about how we're going to encourage other people and groups to join in with this project
including contributing news items and writing features for the site. Personally, I think that we'll
need to do outreach work, explain to people what indymedia is all about and how they can report
their news, maybe including running practical workshops.
We need to start talking and meeting to make these things happen. We can do some of that through
this group, we can set up meetings on irc (internet relay chat)if we've got enough people who want
to communicate in this way, and when we're ready, as many of us as possible probably need to meet
face to face.
So, where should we meet? When should we meet? What can people offer to achieve the things on the
'to do' list? What have I missed out?
Please reply with your thoughts. I don't know how many people on this list are there because they
actively want to make this happen, and how many are interested but don't have the time to be
actively involved. If you can say whether or not you'd be able to come along to a face-to-face
meeting somewhere in Wales, that would be helpful I think (along with any limitation on the distance
you'd be able to travel to a meeting).
For anyone who's not joined this list (your email won't have [imc-wales] in the subject line),
please join it now if you want to be involved - go to
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-wales to sign up.
OK, enough from me.
