Thanks: To Wrecsam people for getting the meeting together, to Genny for
lots of research and an excellent agenda, to Marc for stew and other people
for lunch, and to Phunkee & Shiar for coming and advising.

Agenda

. Indymedia background and history

. A quick look at consensus decision-making

. How would a page for Wales link with the main United kollectives site?

. What do we want our page to look like? how are we going to achieve
this?

. How are we going to make our part of the site bilingual and allow
posts in Welsh?

. How will we get the word out to other people who may be interested in
an Indymedia site for Wales?

. What will we call ourselves?

. Can we agree on a mission statement and editorial guidelines now? (at
least provisionally)

. Who can help with the shared work of newswire cleaning (checking
newswire and hiding articles which breach the editorial guidelines) and who
can help with checking posts made in Welsh?

. Who is interested in writing features and articles?

. What other Indymedia projects could we get involved in? - indyradio,
video, newsletters etc.

. How will we raise funds to cover our costs?

. AOB - forthcoming events to be covered

Indymedia history

Dating from 1999 Seattle. 150 sites up within 2 years. All Independent Media
Centre (IMC) sites run on same software. Highest number of national sites in
US. UK site since 2000. Indymedia Uk stand for United kollectives. In 2007 9
regional IMCs. Bristol and Scotland not linked to IMC Uk but to the global
network. Bristol, for example, has different editorial guidelines to IMC Uk.
NB There is another independent media project for Wales 'IndyCymru' who
apparently do not want to be connected either to Indymedia Uk or IMC
globally. For more details see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indymedia ,
follow links to IMC global and UK sites.

Consensus decision-making & meeting techniques

. Meetings should be proposal driven.

. Signs for 'agree', 'direct response', 'technical point' etc should
help minimise repetition and long-windedness.

. Blocking should be used a last resort when a decision is judged to be
against the foundational principles of the meeting/group/kollective.

. The potential for manipulating even consensual meeting via cliques was
acknowledged.

A page for Wales link on the main United kollectives site

. Means being part of an English language site

. Indymedia Uk might require English translations of articles - but this
could be contested within the kollective

. So, articles would have to be moderated in the language they were
written in but not necessarily translated

. Articles posted on our page of the site in either Welsh or English
would be moderated by us

. We need to make a commitment to maintaining a bilingually moderated
site and supporting (likely) hard-pressed moderators

. Launching the site depends on getting enough Welsh & English speaking
moderators

How the site could look

. We can base it on a template for other area/regional/national pages,
see for example http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/birmingham/

. Template (our home) page would have navigation (buttons) in the
reader's chosen language (i.e. Welsh and English anyway)

. Articles would appear in the language they were written in (and
possible translated into)

How will we get the site up and running

. We can get techie support from Uk Indymedia

. We need to do outreach and particularly recruit moderators

. Could get a gathering together in South Wales with Gwent Anarchist,
Cardiff Anarchist and/or Cynefin Y Werin

. If next meeting/training/workshop is Aberystwyth, accommodation is
available

. We should individually join appropriate Indymedia UK mailing groups,
especially 'features' and 'network') Follow links 'mailing lists' at bottom
of homepage, 'local Europe' and scroll down to, say, 'Imc-uk-features',
click on link and enter email address and password.
