Sorry - was I on the wrong list?
I'm sending this back to uk-tech and to imc-wales lists.
Please can people on the Wales list have a look and check whether this reflects what we decided on
Saturday and bearing in mind Mish's thoughts which are pasted below this message. We've got to get
it right first time! I know there have been a lot of messages today, but it's important that we
sort this one out. Ta.
OK, what I was thinking was that when, for example, I type the address:
http://www.birmingham.indymedia.org.uk,
I get redirected to:
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/birmingham/
so I thought maybe we would need the same for wales and cymru: that's these two addresses:
http://cymru.indymedia.org.uk/ - redirect to our welsh front page
http://wales.indymedia.org.uk/ - redirect to our english front page
But I can see that the standard format is http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/specific region, so
I guess we would maybe also want:
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/cymru *(see note below)
to redirect to:
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/cy/regions/cymru-wales/
(cy indicating cymraeg) so this one would be the proper address of our Welsh language front page
and
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/wales
to redirect to
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/cymru-wales/
(en indicating english like the rest of the uk pages) so this one would be the proper address of our
English language front page.
* (note) Just to complicate things further, you'll see that it would also be possible to have
/cy/regions/cymru redirecting to the welsh language front page. However, it seems to me to be much
more likely that someone looking for the site would assume it has the same format as other uk
regional sites (/en/regions/cymru). In practice, I expect almost everyone comes to regional pages
via the uk front page or some other link...
I realise that all these http addresses are also https for secure connections... I presume that bit
is automatic. Hope so - I'm losing track of all these addresses :o)
Mish - I'm sorry but I have no idea what an .htaccess file is, except that on the only website I've
ever had admin access to, the files are saved in a folder called htdocs.

No more messages today - I promise!
