Oakenwood Society is working to protect native British trees. Our current project to raise money for this is through running herb courses. This summer we are offering:
Herbs for healing, for food and for pleasure Relaxed 2-day weekend courses. We have a few places still available. For dates and further information: www.oakenwoods.co.uk
Herbs have been used for thousands of years in many aspects of life. Until relatively recently knowledge of herbs and ways of use were passed through an oral tradition from generation to generation.
As our society has become more complex so have ways of learning and of passing on knowledge. There are now many courses available on herbs and their uses, ranging from basic introduction to full degrees, which many find to be of use and benefit.
Ways of learning more akin to those of the past can, however, have advantages over a more academic approach and can exist alongside.
Oakenwood's course is rooted in such a philosophy, and is based on combining oral tradition with hands on experience.
In a relaxed environment, away from many of the complications of modern day living you can enjoy a friendly weekend and explore uses of herbs with food, for healing and in incense, and delve into the world of the Anglo-Saxons with an investigation into the Nine Herb Charm.
Venue is a beautful valley in South East Wales on part of a working farm generously lent to Oakenwood for its use.
