TRANSLATION UPDATE

Hi Steffan

Very many thanks for your offer to help cymru-imc-wales with translation.

There are a couple of people working on translations at the moment -
Nico is working on the 'how to publish your news on indymedia' guide,
which will hopefully encourage people to post their own grassroots news
to indymedia once we've got the site up and running. We'll get this
printed and take it with us when we do our outreach tour.

A friend of Hywel's is working on translating some of the text items for
the main web page - buttons and stuff. Until this is done and passed
onto Hamish, who's going to help with the techie side of things, we
won't know what it'll look like, so that's really the next step, at
which point we'll be able to see exactly what else needs doing, what we
must have in place before the site is launched and what we can live with
for the time being.

However, the mission/vision statement and the editorial guidelines will
definitely need to be done, and these are ready now. If you're able to
work on these, that would be a huge help. Nico was going to try to do
them, but the how to guide is a big job and she's busy with other stuff
as well right now.

If you're able to help with these, the text is on the wiki here:

http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Local/CymruImcWales#Development_Work

Both documents are under the heading 'development' and you should be able to copy the text
from there.

There was a suggestion at our first collective meeting that we should
try and make sure that any translations are in an informal style of
Welsh to be as accessible as possible.

I also sent this comment to Nico about the use of the word 'mission':

>I think we'll go with the phrase 'vision' statement rather than 'mission'
>statement, because mission has evangelical and paternalistic connotations.
>No idea how this translates into Welsh, but I'll leave that to you. We can
>post the translation for other welsh speakers on the list to look at
>anyway, and people can suggest any rewording at that point.
>

Diolch yn fawr
