(Note: Apologies for cross-posting. For anyone not getting this
through the imc-aotearoa list, joining that list is the best way to
have your say about the ongoing management of Aotearoa Indymedia and
the global IMC network.)

We had a quick irc meeting tonight about the Convergence. Irc log is
on the wiki:
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Aotearoa/IrcLog20061205

Here's a quick summary:
So far we have the dates sorted (Friday 2 - Sunday 4 February, 2007)
and we're pretty certain the venue is Auckland Uni ClubSpace.
According to Sahar we have dibs on the space for those dates and a
booking will be formalized in the new year.

I have volunteered to help organise feeding the masses and have joined
the Auckland list so we can start getting that organised. Does
AucklandAIM or AIM as a network have any funds to cover the costs of
this event?
- food (what we can't dumpster or get donated)
- venue koha?
- other stuff?

We discussed a rough idea for the program:

Friday night: 6 or 7ish, a dinner/ housekeeping/ social/ film
screening (maybe Whose News?) Will need Video projector and DVD player.

Saturday/ Sunday:
9am voluntary collective breakfast
10am first session(s)
1pm lunch
2pm second session(s)
7pm dinner

May need PCs, net access etc

Sat after dinner: more social time, maybe designate a pub or cafe to
occupy for the night?

Talked about putting out a call for anyone involved in independent
media (including but not limited to Indymedia projects) to faciliate
practical workshops or strategy/ topic discussions. Would this concern
anyone? I would assume final decisions on appropriateness of
facilitators to the Indymedia kaupapa would be made by consensus on
the imc-aotearoa list?

We also talked about the subtle differences between Aotearoa Indymedia
Convergence and Aotearoa Independent Media Convergence. Smush prefers
specifying Indymedia. See my reflections in separete email.

We are going to have another irc meeting on Wednesday 13, 8pm in the
#aotearoa channel:

Wiki pages about the Convergence are here, feel free to add your
thoughts, suggestions and ideas:
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Aotearoa/AimConvergence07
(please note: this url has changed to reflect the fact we're talking
about a convergence rather than a conference, subtle but important
differences)

Please feel free to join us.

End of summary.

I'd like to suggest that we aim to have 4 1 hour sessions on Sat and
Sun, with 15 minute morning and afternoon tea breaks. Keeping sessions
short and topic-focused will keep us from biting off more than we can
chew and getting lost in long, rambling koorerorero (chitchat).

I'd also like to suggest that on Sun after dinner, before we all
scatter, we come back together for a closing round and debrief of the
Convergence organisers. End on a unified and constructive note!

- what people enjoyed
- what they learned
- what they feel inspired to do in 2007
- what they think could be better next Convergence
- set date for same

I'm getting excited already :)
