I am writing firstly and foremost to say 'Hi' slightly more intimately then
my
big group email probably did, but also because I know you dabble in the
video
arts and because its possible the Kaupapa of a little project I am trying
to
finish off is right up your proverbial alley.
 
You may or may not have been aware of a walk some people did recently from
Auckland to "Happy Valley" near Westport in the south island to raise
awareness
about its possible destruction by solid energy.  At any rate I shot some
footage
at a fundraiser the week before it began, on the first day of the walk as
they
were leaving Auckland, and on two days as they passed through S.Waikato.  I
edited a 20 minute piece together with it and had written most of the
voice-over
I planned to lay over the vision and inbetween the interviews when suddenly
I
ran out of time (ie had to get on a sailboat for New Caledonia).
I am in Vanuatu now and it looks like I will continue to not be handy to
modern
video editing equipment for another few months.
And so I am wondering if you or anyone you know would be interested in
voicing
a narration over the top of the otherwise finished product and throwing it
on
the net or giving it to the 'Save Happy Valley Co-alition' for their
archives or
something.
 
As I said I have written most of a voice-over script for it that you could
use
and add to, or that you could just scrap and write from scratch (or come to
think of it I could talk to one of the Co-alition members and I'm sure they
could write something fantastic real quick and voice it for you).   However
please note- (and please accept my apologies if this is a pain in the ass)
that
the only copy I have of the project as it stands is on mini dv tape in HDV
format.
 
That aside however - Steve I hope your writing is going real well (I've
started
something myself in the last week or so that seems to have promise and
potential, but which may be a monster in terms of size, we'll see what
happens,
Ill keep you posted.)
 I hope you are still preaching the gospel of Linux and generally keeping
up
with all that is technologically and medialogically the shit.
Omar I hope you and Aunty Helen are getting some quality time together and
are
on good terms, ie your terms.
And Matt if you have any of your video work on-line could you send me a
link or
two.  As far as I remember I have only seen your 9/11 piece and that was as
interesting as it was not enough (meaning - it was good and I want more).
 
Ok must go but please get back to me if you or anyone you know may be
interested in completing that little said project, and please say if any of
you
want anything done (or shot) in Vanuatu, or infact in S.America where I
will
hopefully be soon.
