Hi everyone,

Regarding Item 3 from the May 14 Meeting about a Matariki film screening,

Hopefully the feature documentary TERROR IN AOTEAROA about the October 15
raids will be ready by then.

If IMC are happy to play this, can someone please let me know a date to aim
for regarding a deadline for a finished edit?

Several short films I have been making since 2001 could also be used to give
some context to the feature which would make up a 90 minute programme.

I was hoping that Aotearoa IMC could also put the call out for venues all
over the country to put this movie on a high rotate - IE once a month
leading up until the election, with discussion / workshop groups following
screenings to generate creativity / political activity around the election
on this issue - and pressure the incoming government's attitude / position
on The War on "Terrorism".

I've invested a whole lot of personal time and energy around this, and do
need to recoup some money as I'm now in debt - so what I was thinking is
this:

I'm aiming for a national audience of 4000 contributing a $5 koha at the
door, so the following income breakdowns relate to a national audience.

Primary beneficiaries of the movie's takings are as follows:

1. Te Kotahi o Tuhoe = 30% = $6000 to help with legal fees.
2. Conscious Collaborations = 25% = $5000
3. Matt (Producer, Director, Camera, Editor) = 25% - $5000 (Covering costs)
4. Exhibitors costs & venue hireage = 10% = $2000 (Film Archive etc)
5. Publicity = 5% = $1000
6. Music (DAM Native) = 5% = $1000

Any help in contacting nationwide venues and setting up screenings would be
welcome.

As would an all points email bulletin for smaller and South Island towns
like Palmy, Hamilton, Nelson, Christchurch, Dunedin, Blenheim to see how
they feel about screening the doco.

I'm almost burnt out from editing around the clock, so am hoping the IMC
collective can take up the call to promote this movie as best they can.
I can help with a flyer, but printing and pasting goes as far as the
political will of the people.

I can supply DVD copies for screenings for sure.

PS.
Please don't look at my pragmatic financial approach as a capitalist
enterprise.
This is a realistic take on how to be sustainable as an activist film maker
in Aotearoa.

Cool,

I look forward to reading discussion and feedback.

Cheers,

Matt

Subject: [imc-wellington] Minutes of Wellington Indymedia meeting 14.5.08

Minutes of Wellington Indymedia collective meeting held on Wednesday 14 May
2008
Meeting began 7 pm

Apologies: Danyl, Darren

1. Film night Sunday 25 May, 7.30 pm at 128 Abel Smith Street. Urs will
pick up The Coconut Revolution from DevZone, check equipment and arrange
video player. Ken has emailed fridge diary. Urs and Ken to meet 6.45 pm at
Oblong before film show to pick up equipment. Ken will email notice to
activist loops.

2. Joint publication of W((i))ndy, Fridge Diary and possibly Oct15
solidarity newsletter. Urs, Ken, Jen and Val met yesterday to discuss this
proposal. It was agreed that a subgroup of Wellington Indymedia would be
formed, and a call-out made for other interested people to attend a
meeting, probably on Tuesday 27 May, 2 pm at Oblong (Urs to check with Jen
and Val).

3. Matariki film shows. Film Archive has offered Friday 13 and Saturday 14
June to show the Tuuhoe film again. Urs suggested we also screen Matt
Donaldson's short about the Seabed and Foreshore hikoi, which is on the
Oceania Indymedia newsreel no. 3. Ken has confirmed dates with Film Archive
and will email Fridge Diary. Urs will do flyer and contact X about
speaking.

4. W((i))ndy 100th issue - in October. Maybe do a special double issue. A
compendium of all 100 issues, similar to Schnews, is a possibility. Ken
will bring the back issues to the next meeting.

5. Finances. We have $181, after donating $20 to Fridge Diary and paying
Rebel Press $24 for printing last issue of W((i))ndy.

6. Proposed new Indymedia centres. Otautahi is stalled, possibly
application withdrawn. Hamilton - no reply. Nelson - one person has
expressed interest in setting up a local IMC and has been replied to.

7. Next W((i))ndy. Meet at Oblong 6 pm on Wednesday 28 May to put together.

8. Films. Ken will check Windymedia films held at DevZone.

9. Darren leaving to go overseas later this month - goodbye, and bon
voyage.

10. Film screening at 128 Abel Smith Street in August - discuss at next
meeting.

Meeting closed 7.35 pm
Next meeting: Wednesday 11 June, 7 pm at Oblong Internet Cafe
