[imc-wmass-announce] Seeking sponsors for hurricane relief work

Greetings friends,
I've been scouring the web for emergency repair crews i might hook-up with
down in the Gulf region this past week, but have yet to confirm anything.
When the flooding began I signed-on with the Hampshire Red Cross, but their
local "trainings" haven't even begun and the growing displeasure with their
operation down south (though not as bad as FEMA) is compelling me to seek
out my own support mechanism. And, support mechanism is just why i'm writing
this to you now.
As most of you may know, we live pretty much hand-to-mouth here at our
place, so any volunteer work i happen to take part in comes, how shall we
say? at a price? Not only do we have to scrape up the cash to pay for
transportation, food & housing for such trips, but we have to make-up for
the loss in income while i'm engaged elsewhere. So, i have to turn to my
friends, neighbors and relatives for support as i did when i went with the
Western Mass Building Brigades to Nicaragua back in the '80s. And, that's
exactly what this message is about.
I'm hoping you folks will help sponsor my volunteer work; that i may, in a
sense, represent YOU down in the flood and hurricane ravaged region of the
South. In exchange i will also post reports back to you via email and web
posts at Western Mass Indymedia. As of this writing i'm not sure whether
i'll hook-up with groups like the Commonground Collective in the 9th Ward of
New Orleans, Peoples Hurricane Relief Fund & Reconstruction, Camp Casey at
Covington, create my own emergency repair team, or hook-up with the
Leverett-Kinder Sister Town project (or maybe some combination of each).
Whatever the case, i'll need your support to do it.
If this sounds like something you wish to support, please drop a big fat
check from a local Valley bank made out to "Don Ogden" and send it to:
d.o.
350 N. Leverett Road
Leverett, MA 01054
If you're not from the Valley or if you want to run it through some
non-profit for a tax break, please give me a call and we'll figure out some
other way to work it out. Thanks to everyone in advance.
This is a critical time in our nation. The federal government has not only
been infiltrated by the enemies of the planet and the poor, but it also has
failed in its constitutional mission. Grassroots efforts,
neighbor-to-neighbor exchanges and solidarity activity will not only fill
the yawning material gap left by the neo-cons and their vile fellow
travelers, but will demonstrate to the public that the present occupants of
the White House and the Capitol must be sent packing; that the people, the
vast majority of the nation, deserve a government that will "promote the
general welfare to ourselves and our posterity".
in solidarity,
d.o.
