[imc-wmass-discuss] Next WMass Indymedia meeting, Dec.16, 9am

Did everyone forget about this meeting?  I stayed until 9:15.

Update from my end:

1. From last meeting I was supposed to look for the poster (from the spring
event) on my computer.  I don't have that - sorry should have said sooner.
All I have is the WMass Indymedia brochure.  Not sure who did the poster -
probably Carlos?


2. Regarding the site that we wanted to create whose function would be to
give ideas to reporters on what to report on (and list date/time of events
that might want to be covered):

I had put something up about 3 weeks ago here:

But have not had a chance to work on it since.  Sorry, will do.

I also plan on having multiple sites within this site:

wmass.indynewsfeed.org
boston.indynewsfeed.org

Etc...


3. Regarding the main wmass.indymedia.org site:

The two major issues are:

a. We have to get off of the Ahisma server.  I am still not clear how much
time we have, but I don't think it is a rush.  So, we are trying to figure
out where to go (as are other Indy sites on that server).  I am getting some
pretty good help from one person (who goes by "ekes"), both on getting
server space and on moving from Dada to Drupal (see "b" below).

b. We'd like to move to Drupal, which is way better than Dada. Other Indys
are doing same.  If we had the server space figured out, we could move to
Drupal very quickly, IF we didn't care about bringing the old Dada data into
the Drupal site (in which case we could probably leave the Dada stuff
sitting on the old site as an archive, until it dies some day).  But ekes is
seeing if he can figure out how to move the data from Dada to Drupal.  Even
if he does figure that out, that is not the only difficulty.  There are GB's
of media on the old server that would have to get moved*, and also the way
that Dada does the paths to the media is different to Drupal.

* a lot of this media is junk.  People uploading Britney Spears or
whatever...  too bad.

Unless ekes figures out how to do all of this easily, I would definitely
leave the old Dada stuff behind.


c. One other issue:

It would be nice to find another place to store the large media (audio and
video).  The obvious place is ourmedia.org (which is connected to
archive.org).  We could do that by simple having people put media there, and
then link to it in their posts.  However, that makes for a two-step process
to post an article:

1. put the media on ourmedia.org.
2. create article on wmass.indymedia.org and link to the media on
ourmedia.org

...which is not ideal.  Although it could be done and it's only for audio
and video (not images) so maybe that's not such a big deal?

I am trying to see if somebody has figured out how to post media to
ourmedia.org from within a Drupal site so that it could be more of a
one-step process.
