Sorry for cross-posting, but i didn't want to miss anybody.

The editorial working group will meet this Wed. @ 7:30-9 in the
Umass Campus Center room 803

Amber and anyone else who wants to join us should come to the ARISE staff mtg tomorrow to talk with them...they wanted to know more about our group and to discuss using their office space in Spfld and possible non-profit status. directions are below.

I sent a couple of questions raised at the Sunday 2/9 mtg out to the new-imc list and the imc-finance list, and this is what i heard: (notice that UCIMC has a treasurer)

1. does the global imc have non-profit status, and can this be extended
to the local imc's? have other local imc's received non-profit status?

the global imc network does not have non-profit status and uses a fiscal
sponsor for our finances. non-profit status can be extended to local imcs
from fiscal sponsors by arrangement between the two organizations. as far
as i know, the Urbana-Champaign IMC (UCIMC) is the only IMC with
non-profit status (if there are others i'd really like to know). the
UCIMC has sponsored several media projects and will work with interested
media production groups if they're interested in being sponsored.

2. how have other imc's gone about funding their work and fundraising?
what types of grants have they received? what strategies have worked?

the UCIMC has an extensive fundraising plan and has been applying for
grants at a rate of about one every quarter. thus far, we're received no
funding through this avenue. our main source of income thus far has been
donations from the general public. we have a 1600 square foot (~175
square meter) community center that holds regular meetings, movies,
lectures, concerts, etc. and we've had a huge amount of local support for
the center. i've been working to get our fundraising plan (and other
documents) available on-line; if there's interest let me know and i'll try
to get them up on our website (www.ucimc.org or urbana.indymedia.org).

let me know if you have any further questions,

Do you think it would be beneficial, or would another person be "clutter"? I'm mostly just curious, and always find it useful (even if indirectly) to make these sort of connections in person. Arise and the org for which I work have some ties, but I've not been to their place nor met the staffers.
