Dear Editors of Worcester Indymedia;

I am sure it was an oversite, but Councilor Petty not only walked in the Walk for the Homeless, on 6/4, he gave the proclomation for the Mayor, who had a previous commitment.
I was unable to attend because of family commitments, and had donated to the walk, generously, as I always do. I asked Councilor Petty to extend my support and best wishes for the walk.

5/1 - Since I had a previous engagement, I did not attend. That does not mean I don't care.

6/2 - I did not think it was an effective method and I could not attend as my job that day was as an elected delegate. That does not mean that I don't care, nor does it mean that I didn't do anything to help get more money. I have spent the past 15 years advocating, sometimes I felt like I was a lonely voice, for adequate funding for education. I did it as a mother and taxpayer, a CPPAC co-chair, a School Committee member for six years, and as a City Councilor for the past six months and will continue to do so.

6/6 - Budget meeting at 4, Legislative Affairs committee right after, and immediately after that, a Council meeting.

Other events I have attended just since May you didn't list -

The YWCA Stepping Up for battered women walk, where I spoke; several Memorial Day events, City of Worc., Geese Project Press Conference; First Wednesday Meeting; Give Kids A Fighting Chance event at the Paladium; Elm Park Community Dinner/Save Our Community Schools; Meeting with community at Goddard House about Taco Bell; Tornadoes Kick Off; Dedication of Monument to Robert Goddard; Democratic City Committee Dinner; 79th Annual Armed Forces Committee Dinner (I am a member of the Council's Military Affairs Committee); Friends of Worcester Neighborhoods Saw Doctors Fundraiser for Worcester Neighborhoods and Trees,(my daughter's prom) KofC Mt. a myriad of neighborhood meetings; phone calls and letters regarding constituant concerns; research on issues; and quite a few more meetings that weren't written down. Also, I snuck in a few of my son's games and practices, picking up my daughter from work, a 21st wedding anniversary, Father's Day, other Family graduations; attended an event in New Jersey for my husband's business which took me out of the City, etc. Also, my husband travels about 140 days a year, so I am often it for transportation for my kids.

Some of the aforementioned may not be important in your eyes, but for the people involved, they were just as important. Supporting the local Worcester Delegation assists me in my relationship to lobby for the City of Worcester..I also had a small fundraiser so I could continue to do things like support the majority if not all of the Little Leagues in the City. I also have a great deal of personal debt because of my previous campaigns, and I am trying to eradicate that.

City Council is supposed to be a part time position, and I honestly don't know how my colleagues who have other fulltime jobs do what they do. Some of my colleagues are district councilors, and would not be involved in as much as the at large councilors are. Some of my colleagues are retired, and can do this full time. I am close to full time. I try very hard to balance my time, and sometimes it works.

I am a public servant, and I try and give my best to the community which elected me. Thank you for your support.
