Press Release is below and attachedFor immediate release:Press Contacts: Mary Hunter, 508-425-9321; Tina Mansfield, 508-579-3547; Frank Kartheiser,                        508-754-5001             Lincoln Street Together to host School Committee Candidates' Night Citing the many challenges facing the Worcester Public Schools, leaders of Lincoln Street Together announced that they will host a School Committee Candidates' Night on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 from 6:30-8:00pm at St. Bernard's Gym, 7 Harlow Street, Worcester, MA.  "The challenges facing our schools don't just impact our youth.  They effect the entire community," said Mary Hunter, a leader in Lincoln Street Together.  "Our neighborhood isn't the same without Harlow Street School," she concluded.  Harlow Street School, the neighborhood school for the lower Lincoln Street area, was closed last year due to budget cuts. Lincoln Street Together, a coalition of churches and neighborhood organizations, is hosting the Candidates' Night to focus on two main issues; classroom size and the student supply budget.  "It was hard enough for my son to have to change schools, and now the classroom he's in has over 30 students," said Ms Tina Mansfield, the mother of a student at the Wawecus Road School and a leader in Lincoln Street Together.   Lincoln Street Together leaders also pointed out that the student supply budget is only $30 per student per year.  That places a burden on families as well as teachers who must pick up the cost of basic necessities such as paper and pencils.  It also means that many students can't bring their textbooks home to study for fear they could be lost or damaged. Whatever the outcome of the election there will be at least two new members on the School Committee since two incumbents, Ms Ogretta MacNeil and Mr. Joseph O'Brien are not running for reelection.
