Green Left Weekly #649, November 16, 2005
600,000+: Largest workers' protest in Australian history
See http://www.socialist-alliance.org/ for reports & pictures of
November 15 rallies against Howard's IR laws. There are also the
resolutions passed by the 35,000-strong Geelong rally
<http://www.socialist-alliance.org//page.php?page=498> and the
1000-strong Armidale rally
<http://www.socialist-alliance.org//page.php?page=499>, which called upon
the ACTU to organised national industrial action against the laws,
called upon the Labor federal opposition to commit to abolishing AWAs
and all Howard's anti-union laws, and pledging to defend any worker
penalised under these laws.
IR laws: Howard's unprecedented power grab

The new IR laws are going to ``bring the biggest changes to industrial
relations in 100 years'', according to Adam Bandt, a partner at Slater &
Gordon Lawyers, a Melbourne-based firm specialising in defending unions
and unionists. He spoke to Green Left Weekly on November 10, the same
day the Workplace Relations Amendment (WorkChoices) Bill was passed by
the House of Representatives. [Full article]

Terror laws: Are we really safer?
<http://www.greenleft.org.au/back/2005/649/649p24.htm>
A campaign by the Howard government, backed by the corporate media, to
suggest that terror attacks were imminent provided the backdrop to the
passing of emergency legislation in federal parliament on November 3.
