Subject: Use of Indy images
To whom it may concern:
I am writing you because I am art editor of Zeek, a new Jewish journal
of thought and culture. And I'm interested in using some of of the art
you
have in your collection for an upcoming online issue.
Founded in January, 2002, Zeek's mission is to present alternative Jewish
voices of criticism, literature, art and religious thought, in an
intelligent, but non-academic, context. We are, in fact, considered the
"Jewish New Yorker": independent, cutting edge and innovative.
Zeek exists both online, and in print, in semi-annual journal form; Online
we reach about 50,000 unique viewers a month. I invite you to visit our
site, www.zeek.net to learn more and view our journal.
While primarily a Jewish journal, Zeek believes in expansive and
pluralistic
definitions of what constitutes Jewish writing, art and culture, and is
dedicated toward enriching those definitions within its pages.
For our online journal, I choose art because it complements some of our
essays or poems, or the art itself may deal with the themes discussed. It
may even be more immediate in explicitly grappling with Jewish themes. For
print versions, I often pick work that I believe evokes the mood or
general
themes of the issue itself, unrelated to particular copy. Later this year,
art coverage will expand to include more art exposes and articles, and I
am
particularly looking forward to implementing John Berger-esque art essays.
I have discovered your gallery, and there are several artists/and works of
art I'd like to use/highlight. Including, among others, but for a quick
short list:

If we do use publish the work, online or in print, I link to your website
and/or and in print, would like a short bio attached to the image (3-4
sentences) in the back pages of the journal. I hope you will consider
letting us use your art in our journal and also hope this can be the
beginning of an ongoing relationship. Please contact me with questions. I
will follow up by phone soon to ensure you received this email...and
because we have a deadline rapidly approaching.
Art-fully yours,
