hello,
i'm ansti from germany - currently rejoining to several indymedia
projects.
i was already active in the tech and listwork teams for some time
- but silently retired about a year ago.
i'dd like to apologize for this behavior. nobody has to tell me that
people that claim to take over some responsibility and then retire
silently are a big mess.
anyway, i've achieved some aims at making lurker more mailman
compatible - let's step into details.
lurker (http://lurker.sourceforge.net) is a mailinglist archiver with
very good search, group-based disposition of lists (like the static site
at http://lists.indymedia.org/index.html does), and threading support.
it allows customizable layouts and claims to be _very_ fast.
to see an example with lurker at large archives, try terpstras debian
list archive at http://people.debian.org/~terpstra/
as i'm debian maintainer for lurker and use it for other hosts as well,
i planned to port http://lists.indymedia.org from pipermail, the
internal mailman archiver, to lurker in my early indymedia days.
recently, i've created some scripts that improve lurkers mailman support
and added them to my debian packages. today i uploaded lurker 1.1-5 to
debian/unstable, which should contain all scripts and functions that are
necessary to run lists.indymedia.org with lurker as archiver.
therefore, i'dd be glad to have my accounts on sarai reactivated, at
least my normal user account. I had also a root account, called ansroot,
but i'm not sure if this was good policy in any way - so feel free do
remove it. anyway, for access to install packages i need at least some
sudo permissions ...
i'dd first install the lurker archives as second archive, until
everything is tested and approved by the tech and listwork teams.
does sarai still run debian/testing? lurker 1.1-5 should be in
debian/testing within the next 2 weeks (10 days are normal delay).
otherwise i could also backport it to woody or potato, whatever sarai
runs. btw, does sarai still host all mails for indy, or did it get
assistants in the meantime?
i'dd also be interested in having my accounts on che reactivated,
considering that che still is development machine, and some things still
will need to be developed ;)
sorry, if this to much - and to fast. i just waited for that mail until
lurker really is ready to get lists.i.o managed.
bye
ansti
