yes, mailman can be configured to use both internal archiver (pipermail)
and external archiver (lurker).

as already mentioned, lurker provides a lurker-search command, which can
be used to delete postings from the archives. this is only supported
on commandline right now, but next release will provide an admin cgi,
and doing one on our own shouldn't be too hard.

take a look at the lurker docs (ecpecially lurker-search(1) manpage).
