Hi all,

After offering my services as a volunteer to help the listwork working
group, I was advised by Alster to send a roll call to the listwork
mailing list.

ROLL CALL:
( as based on https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/WelcomeMessage )

1. Name / Nickname:
Anthony - If there's another Anthony, AnthonyG is fine

2. Region / IMC:
IMC Ireland - http://www.indymedia.ie

3. Languages Understood:
English (and pieces of Gaelic, French, German)

4. Preferred working language:
English

5. Level of participation, interests, additional comments:

I've been involved with Indymedia Ireland as a newswire contributor in
2002. Since early 2003 I subscribed and lurked on the mailing lists
before starting to contribute in a positive way and after a few months
was accepted as a member of the current editorial collective.

Over the years, I've engaged in a wide range of work for Indymedia
Ireland Internet Collective. I help moderate the newswire, put together
front page features, respond to inquiries from others, co-admin the
Irish mailing lists (though in the past it was a struggle to get others
to actively participate in the work).

It was through my work as a list administrator that I became aware of
the work done by the listwork volunteers and how understaffed they are.
Running lists isn't very glamorous and I imagine that providing the
global mailing list service and administering the list server is even
less desirable a task people to get involved in.

I really like the mailman service provided by listwork and find it far
better than other list administration interfaces such as that of Yahoo
groups or even the sympa software (as used by riseup.net). As Indymedia
Ireland has had the benefit of this excellent service over the past five
years, I thought it only fair that we give something back to the Global
Indymedia community.

So far, with the exception of developing Oscailt (and providing some
Oscailt support) the Irish Internet Collective have contributed very
little to the global community. It states in our brand new constitution
that "10.1 We will play a full part in the International Indymedia
Network and participate in the work of the network." ( from the
Constitution of the Indymedia Ireland Internet Collective as agreed at
the October 2006 AGM - http://www.indymedia.ie/constitution )

In short, I think having a mailing list service as excellent as that
provided by listwork is vitally important for transparency, facilitating
decision making and providing a historical record of the activity of
Indymedia collectives and working groups. I would like to be part of the
solution and ease the workload of the current listwork volunteers.
