OK, I have made a start on this but haven't read much,
google has 575 hits...

But perhaps I gave a wrong impression -- I was suggesting
that funding could be applied for as "Mir - the Free
software project" and _not_ as Indymedia. 

If this were the case, if things were to go horribly wrong
(which I would hope they wouldn't), then we could always
fork a IMC version or make the funded work a different
fork...  free software projects are often very good at
staying on track dispite who might or might not be funding
them...
