Hi there Hartford IMC,
My name is Jay and I'm involved with the Philadelphia IMC, as well as the
new-imc working group. We got your info from the new-imc form. It all
sounds really good.
Check out http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewImcHowTo for a basic
overview of the process we use for welcoming a new IMC into the
network. Especially take a peek at the "membership criteria"
document. Since you've been organizing for a while you probably have had
most of the important discussions regarding mission, public accesibility
and organizing transparency. You may have to take some time and work on a
proposed editorial policy for your upcoming site because that's a different
animal than dealing with a printed paper (open publishing can be fun but
messy. :) You seem to have done some good work toward getting the group to
be more diverse. Getting ready to open a web site could definitely inspire
new ways of reaching out toward racially diverse communities, especially
things like having trainings with local community groups on how to post
media to the site and how to put together multimedia news stories.
Have you been in touch with other IMCs in your area? The Madhatters IMC
from Danbury? Recently we've been encouraging aspiring IMCs to work with
established IMCs as they go through the new-imc process. If you have any
contacts with the Danbury group, maybe you could be in touch and they'd
offer to be your new-imc "sponsor."
For examples of the way new-imcs have filled out all their information,
check out the archives of the new-imc list and/or imc-process. If you
have any questions and/or feel as if you're ready to take the next steps,
be in touch with the new-imc list and let us know how it's going.
Good luck!
Jay
