[New-imc] indybook article about new-imc

Hi new-imc,

A couple months ago I mentioned I'm working, slowly, on two articles
for a book about Indymedia (http://www.indybook.org). One of the
articles is supposed to focus on the early growth of the Indymedia
network. I've been working on a draft and will probably try to
expand that topic to include a description of the development and
more recent (dis)function of the new-imc working group.

I know we raised the pros and cons of presenting this kind of article
with a shared "new-imc working group" byline. Right now I'm leaning
toward finishing a draft of the article myself, then posting it on
this list. Then we can see who actually wants to participate and to
what extent, and we can go from there. In any case, I'll post all
complete drafts here to make sure people on this working group think
I'm painting an accurate picture.

In the meantime, I'm wondering if anyone on this list may be so kind
as to respond to a couple questions for the article. I'm working on
some paragraphs about the new-imc process, what it tries to
accomplish and how. I'd love to get responses from anyone in the
group who has worked with several new-imc or has been around this
working group for a while. (You can certainly respond off-list if
you'd like)

1. Why did you choose to get involved with the new-imc working group?

2. What do you see as the primary role of the new-imc working group
within the Indymedia network? How well (or poorly) has the working
group fulfilled this role?

3. When you're working with an aspiring IMC, what do you think is the
most important piece of advice you give them?
How do they respond?

4. What do you think separates the IMCs that enter the new-imc
process and eventually join the network from those that start the
process but never make it through?

5. How well do you think the new-imc working group has adapted to
changing realities within the network? (i.e., regionalizing the
process as regional indymedia networks became stronger, making the
process multilingual as people who speak different languages become
more involved, etc.)

6. What could the new-imc working group have done, or do, better?

That should be enough. Thanks so much in advance for answering my
silly questions!

Jay
