Support groups:
Our group is currently made up of individuals -- some members belong to
other political collectives, but
they do not represent them inside this project. A fundamental support has
been given sofar by other nodes participating in the Italian process, even
if we are aware that identifying different nodes in a national process can
be difficult at an international level. In Liguria we have several contacts
in different areas.
Please, write an introductory statement about the reasons why you wish to
participate in the Indymedia Network.
- allow those who are given warped or censored news by mainstream media to
publish
uncensored news in a public space. We wish to make an effort for giving
great visibility and popularity to this space.
- creating a link between local communities and independent Italian and
global information so as to
spread information produced by groups and individuals who do not belong to
mainstream circuits.
- serving as an archive for important news that have been censored by
mainstream media.
What kind of resources can you offer as regards servers/bandwidth/technical
and organizational skills?
- at the moment we cannot help the network, but we hope to get stronger. We
are
creating a Drupal-based test site. We are going to actively participate in
the maintenance and funding of the server hosting the Italy Indymedia
archives, as well as spreading on a local basis indymedia.org's mission
statement.
What kind of public process have you gone through so as to gather a diverse
group of people around this project?
- We have opened a public list, announcing it to the italy-process list and
on
italy.indymedia.org's splash page; we have organized open meetings in
public spaces. We are also planning to launch several events in order to
attract more people.
In which way does your group reflect the local
community's diversity?
- We already are men and women, students and workers
of different ages, and we hope to grow both in number and variety. We try
to be actively present in our territory in order to become an instrument
for spreading news flows, as well as for giving our points of view in the
most stirring local debates.
If your group does not currently represent the local community's diversity,
especially as regards groups underrepresented in "mainstream" society, who
are denied access to expression means, what
steps are you going to undertake so as to constantly correct this bias?
- We believe that by opening this imc and organizing public events we will
grow bigger. If we notice that some local group is not included in Liguria
Indymedia, we will contact them and suggest something. We have also
contacted several organizations outside Genoa, where there are currently
more members, and we are planning to spread the network all over the
regional territory.
What kind of process are you going to go through in order to involve people
in working fields that can be new? What measures are you going to use for
overcoming a gender-based work division?
- In our group men and women are working together without any particular
task
division, simply basing on each individual's skills and interests. As
regards new working fields, we have a wide contact network that can help us
open up Liguria Indymedia to different issues.
bye
