My thanks to Boud for opening the dialogue to the list.
I also wish to add the following:
- I don't have any complaints in terms of how our colleagues have been
administering the group mailbox. But that is different from moderating
(more on that below).
- I don't have any objections to adding one more person to administer
the mailbox. Thanks to Bartolomeo for volunteering.
- If Bartolomeo's main focus is to help with new imc groups that may be
forming in Germany, perhaps volunteering with the mailbox administration
may not the best direction to accumulate experience and familiarity with
the work of new-imc. For example, more can be gained for Bartolomeo and
for the new-imc work group if we may ask Bartolomeo to offer help with
some of the other ongoing (or future) work of the group.
- It appears to me, and I think to many people, that Moderating is not
the same as administering the email box. Moderating is an active
involvement in the dialogue in ways that can help maintain a good,
functional and positive climate, helping to focus our attention on
aspects of the work that need to be pursued further, occasionally
summing up where we're at with each thread of the work or the dialogue,
and helping us proceed as a group. Sometimes that role is called
"facilitator" or "moderator" or "co-ordinator"; the name is not
important but the activity is. I feel we might benefit from some light
and mild moderating.
Thanks again to all for the opportunity to re-examine some of this, and
to Bartolomeo for volunteering.
Petros
