hi trista,

i'm one of the many volunteers in the new-imc working group.
We're a publicly archived group.

alster has given you details of how to contact us - you can see
your message + response archived here:
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/new-imc/2008-October/thread.html

However, the most important thing is to organise together with a
variety of other local activists - the www.twimc.org and
www.twblog.net people would probably be good contacts to start with.

Starting an IMC collective is a lot more than just setting up a website:
getting a local group of activists together who agree on some minimal
set of organising principles is what is intended to be the basis of
a collective. It takes a lot of work and time! but is worth it in the
long run. :)

Maybe a response to your subject title can help here:

> DO YOUR JOB AND START IT UP!!!! IT'D TAKE ABOUT 2 MINUTES OF SYS
> ADMIN!!!! PLS IMC GET OFF YOUR ASS

Who is the "you" in "your"? If you want to be part of a local
collective in Taiwan, then you'll be as much a part of the imc network
as anyone else (and it sounds like you already are part of imc from
your time in DC, USA). So we could probably translate that as
"I'LL DO MY JOB AND START IT UP!!!!"... :)

It's the job of local activists to autonomously organise and create a
collective which is a real local, network of people. Networking
certainly can help, but since we don't want to have any central office
or central collective, it's all the more important that each new local
collective itself knows how the network does function and can contribute
to how network functioning evolves and really happens. As you get into
contact with other taiwan activists, you'll find your own ideas of
how to do this. IMC is not about top-down organising - a website won't
create a collective.

Anyway, for networking with the rest of the network, you can start
checking off and reading through the info at:
https://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewImcHowTo

BTW, you might be interested in getting in contact with the IMC Japan
collective, to compare experiences, including IMC organising experience:
