Hi boud, Toya
thanks for responding:)
First, some history for everyone to know. I met Israel in London during early september
2008 through a friend who lived in Camden. He had specifically requested to
speak with an indymedia journalist via my friend and I got the call. Israel had
heard of indymedia for a long time and had wished to set one up for a long
time. He was a bit stunned to meet me after hearing my history with indymedia.
I said i would see what i could do in helping and
that i would contact him with a set of instructions on how to form an
indymedia. He left to return to Cuba and I went onto ESF Malmo and later, the Diaz
verdict in November 2008.
I have full confidence that Israel can get
Habanas.indymedia.org off the ground. He has already put in alot of work to get
the concept this far. Habanas.indymedia does and will require alot of help to
get into the air as most of us from indymedia would envision it. I recently
learned that Israel only makes $15 dollars a month wages and internet access is
$10 dollars an hour.
I discussed the group's needs when we first met. he
needed computers and money for a broadband line to effectively take part in the
indymedia network. This is the reason for the london-cuba visit in the next
couple of months to deliver the kit. I have no doubt, the laptops and cameras
would be put to good use. I am beginning to think that my best role is to raise
money for habanas.indymedia and give it a fighting chance of getting off the
ground....plus organising a 'european' trip to help with more kit and training.
I think my job with helping habanas.indymedia.org
is almost done though. the application exists
and people are waking up now to what is possible.
thankyou Toya. I think that alot of Cuba's alternative media needs will be met
by South American indymedia journalists so go ahead and contact israel yourself and offer your
help. I think it is very crucial that somebody gets to Havana to start helping
israel and the group as soon as possible.
I have absolutely no doubt that
habanas.indymedia.org will grow to become one of the most important south
american indymedia's ever created. It has long been a dream to see an indymedia
running in cuba and now its time is coming.
As for myself, boud...you ask after my health. I am
quite burnt out now after partially winning Diaz and Bolzaneto cases. 26
Italian police officers convicted is not bad. For the last three or four years
i have not been on the indymedia scene in a strong way. Diaz in particular took alot of my
strength in 2008. I had not realised how tired I would feel after Diaz finished
in mid November 2008 with its verdict. I have spent Christmas and new year
resting and trying to get my strength back. I have little resources at the
moment except to do this last task of introducing Israel and habanas.indymedia
to the network.
My days of being an indymedia journalist are
numbered. My sole responsibility is now to get indymedia through the italian G8
2009 in La Maddalena and maybe copenhagen. The Diaz cops and its verdict are
going to have a massive impact on the G8 protests in July. Italy is quite a
scary place at the moment.
I will try and submit the form successfully
submitted. just give me a few days. just not feeling too well at the moment.
can someone from the newimc list submit it for me?
