Hi Case,
Actually there was nothing really planned in the roadmap with regards Events, but now that you raise this, maybe we should think about it again.
You are right about events that spread over several days. There is no easy solution. First though a little bit of history. When the events section was added, the idea was to have a separate table and there would have been table columns for start date + time and end date and time and lots of other things like location. However, it was decided to make it just another story type. That meant there would be little or no changes to allow comments and images just like all other story types in Oscailt. Therefore it was seen as a bad idea to expand the columns in the story table for things that would only be used by events.
Also if start times and end times + dates were added, there was no guarantee that they would be filled in. In general the more formatting fields you have, then the less likely they get filled in correctly. So we just went with what we had.
As regards changing or correcting event dates, we in IMC-Ireland, reply on people contacting us via the email list and we make the corrections. The alternative is to hand out logins and then you would have to make sure that you set the permissions to only do that. If you hand out logins, there is a high chance the facility would be abused. Ideally for multi-user login capability, you would need to look hard at the design and decide why and what you want to do.
An alternative would be to devise some system to allow people to change the date without necessarily logging on. Perhaps you could save the cookie of the publisher of the story and allow them to change it. But I don't think that is an ideal solution.

In my opinion the Oscailt Event module is too "simple".
Well.
The principal point is that some events hold over
more than a single day. In Oscailt we cannot specify this.
i.e. there is a summit from July 1 to July 5:
how to publish such event? People must use a trick
(re-post the same event for every day, or post it
whit the last day date, ...)
Then.
Often events can be revoked or changed after
they have been published (i.e. a different date,
a different place, a new plan, ...) so people
is not able to modify the post by itself (like
in sf-active).
Last.
We, Toscana IMC, have added some code to
the Event module, so people can specify the place
(the city) where the event occours, in addition
to the Region; such city will be prepended to
the Title of the post.
(
sorry but this doc is in italian).
In the road map of Oscailt developement, there is
an agenda improvement?
Ciao
case
