I am not 100% quite sure what the problem is that you reported, but what I think should happen and the way we use it is, we take any given news article and we click on the upgrade to feature icon. That makes a copy which is hidden. We then work on that. And when we are ready, we get other editors to have a quick look over, and then vote to unhide it. 

In the act of unhiding it, Oscailt, should automatically transfer over the comments from the original to the feature and at the same time get rid of the original.

Regarding the image. Oscailt 3.0 has an script which is placed in there named OSCAILTMACRO (or something similar) And basically you just give a relative path to an already uploaded and existing image on your server. The parameters to it, specify it's X and Y sizes. Defaults if you leave at zero. The macro then generates the appropriate sized thumbnail and builds the HTML reference for it.

In the new system, if you promote an article to a feature you would

create a new article, which also appears on the front page.  We 
found that having two articles (a feature and the original) divided 
the comments between the two and made it a bit disconnected.
