An open letter to Mick Lambe and anyone involved in or following the saga:

I apologise for cross-posting this, but I want not just Mick to read it, but
also those that have been reading his vitriol about me and "that" meeting.
I've posted it to new-imc as I believe you are currently dealing with some
of the fall-out from this episode.

I can't post it on the Darwin Indymedia list because the day after we gave
the administrative passwords to the current DIMC, they unsubscribed me! Some
show of faith.

Mick, you have been constantly calling me a liar, proven, you say, by my
rough notes. As usual, your logic escapes me.

I want to know what lies I am telling please.

I agree Mick Lambe announced a Darwin Indymedia Collective Meeting at One
Mile Dam.

I agree he told me it had to be at One Mile Dam (OMD) as he wanted to get
rid of Gary and if he turned up at the meeting he could kick him out as he,
Mick, lived at OMD.

I agree Mick found four people to be at OMD for the "meeting" and another
joined the minutes by being in a drunken sleep in the corner.

Of the four conscious people in the tin shed at OMD (aside from Mick), three
had never been involved with DIMC before or even seen the Darwin Indymedia
web-site or any indymedia site.

I agree Mindy left after about 5 minutes to tend to Kayla (her niece),
leaving David, Vicki Zangari (NOT Vicki Riley who's now with DIM) me and
Mick.

I was very sick and did not want to go to Mick's meeting at all as I wasn't
even interested in Indymedia and didn't have computer access. I only went
after Mick yelled at and bullied me until I had little choice.

But I went, I took notes and I remember what happened.

I agree that Mick staged the "meeting" for the sole purpose of "expelling"
Gary Meyerhoff because of personal reasons. (Rob Inder-Smith was an
afterthought, he was never mentioned at the meeting as my rough notes
prove.)

I agree that when Gary did arrive at OMD for the DIMC meeting, Mick ordered
him to leave, "…This is my home!" he yelled, as he had planned.

Gary was not only a member of the DIM collective, he was also an
administrator. Mick not only denied him any opportunity to defend himself,
didn't Mick breach the Principles of Unity by refusing to allow a DIMC
member and administrator to come to a DIMC meeting.

I agree Mick gave a number of reasons to David, Vicki and myself as why we
had to "get rid of Gary", none of which had anything to do with any
indymedia – as proven by my rough notes.

I agree that after his a diatribe Mick said, "So everyone agrees that we
don't want Gary Meyerhoff involved with DIM? Good."

David had nodded – he didn't know Gary but Mick had David believing Gary was
the devil incarnate. Neither Vicki nor I said anything.

Only Mick had any idea of what had happened. I didn't take any of it
seriously, I thought the whole thing a farce, an exercise in Mick's
obsession and egocentricity. I certainly had no idea of the monster I helped
create.

I too was expelled some weeks later, I'm not sure what for. Mick "expelled"
all five other people on the collective, not for any joint breach of
anything, but individually, at different times, for various vague crimes of
Mick's imagination. Telling lies was one reason for an expulsion, what the
lies were weren't specified. What a fascist!

I agree that around 18 months ago four people, three who had no prior
experience with DIM (I'd been to one meeting with only two people there and
never went to the site) sat in David Timber's corrugated cage, his home at
OMD and the three suckers listened to Mick slag off Gary Meyerhoff.

I agree that after slandering Gary for some time Mick said, with the
expectation of knowing no-one would disagree – he picked us for that reason
– "So everyone agrees that we don't want Gary Meyerhoff on the DIM
collective? Good?"

I agree that David, convinced by Mick that Gary was evil, nodded.

I agree Viki looked embarrassed and said nothing definite.

I agree to feeling caught by Mick's "agree with me or suffer" approach and
said nothing. I really didn't think the "meeting" would count, it couldn't
possibly be valid, there were no collective members there! I just wanted to
go home.

I had no idea of the can of worms opened by Mick Lambe, David Timber, Viki
Zangari and Fiona Clarke in what was really just Mick being obsessive,
spiteful, vindictive, jealous and manipulative. And the three of us being
naïve and gullible.

For 18 months volunteers from nearly every capital city in Australia and
much of Oceania have been called liars and racists.

Local Darwin activists have had their personal lives distorted and posted
all over the web. People have been hurt, and are still being hurt.

All because Mick was so consumed by his hatred of Gary and his envy of NAP's
success as an activist organisation – both achieving where he had failed –
that he got at him the best way he could.

He plotted to take DIM "off him" and to publicly discredit and humiliate him
on the internet.

I remember Mick. I remember before, during and after the "meeting".

It happened pretty much as you said Mick and you agree with me as to who was
there? You call that a DIM collective meeting? People who didn't know what
an indymedia was?

I never imagined it would be taken seriously.

Mick Lambe's meeting at OMD which kicked off his whole hate campaign was at
best – unconstitutional, unethical, unfair, discriminatory, illegal -
breached the Points of Unity, and DIMC at the time had a 'rule' that you had
to have been to two DIMC meetings in order to vote – only Mick fulfilled
that criteria, therefore the "meeting" is invalid.

It was wrong. Nasty, manipulative and wrong.

But where have I told lies Mick? What do my rough notes prove that I've lied
about?

I won't be writing about this issue again.

Fiona
