Friends,
A Member is misrepresenting us on the site and on the e-mail lists.
Laury Kenton has hijacked the Seattle Indymedia Site.
She is telling the community that she is the "Webmaster" of the
site
seattle.indymedia.org.
She claims that she is the only person in control of the site,
stating "I have made every decision on the website for the last 5
months". This is not true. I have personally convened all but one
Editorial meeting this year, have been active in clerking the wire,
have written features, and helped many authors advance thier work
to
the front page of our website. I trust you all have noticed my work
;-)).
She has stated that I have not helped her, and that is why she will
not restore my password.
In fact, I have talked with Laury for hours on the phone, and I have
the cellular phone records to prove it. We have also met on at least
7 occasions I am aware of, and have sent many e-mails back and
forth, as you all have seen. I have additional e-mail records not
archived on the public lists, so we have had a lot of contact.
Why, despite the fact that I have helped her more than any other
member(who else has met with her 7 times, and talked for an hour
one time, almost an hour another time, and on numerous other
occasions?) does she maintain I've done nothing?
More importantly, Who cares? I owe her nothing, I've never
committed
to doing anything for her that I have not done, and have always
been
available to her, just like I've always been available to every
Member of the Collective. 'In Solidarity' is more than a salutation
to me.
She has deleted posts without any regard to the concept of
accountability and transparency. She refuses to allow anyone to
participate in the decision making process. In fact, she is not
using any known editorial policy at all. She had stated that she
wants to shut the editorial e-mail list, the primary tool used by
editorial to reach online concensus, collaborate with each other on
feature creation, and maintain a transparent record of our
activities. She convenes no meetings.
Laury has altered my work, and removed it from the center column
without notification, in an attempt to hurt my personally.
Laury has claimed to be spending over 20 hours a week on the site,
when in fact her work has been limited to 'clerking the wire',
which I and many others have done in 10-20 minutes a day.
She has used the claim that she spends over 20 hours a week on
editorial(Not true!) as an excuse to deny password access to anyone
who will not submit to her personal requirements to promise over 15
hours a week at work she must approve, without any input from the
other members of the collective. This requirement is arbitrary and
has never been made of any indymedia Member, ever, in the history
of the network. It is not legitimate.
This abuse of a shared resource of the collective is a serious
breach of trust, and warrents her being asked to surrender her
password access to the site seattle.indymedia.org.
