Hi!
I was at the Seattle IMC meeting a little while ago, and we agreed on a
first step towards making the website more viable. We thought that
splitting the newswire into two, if not more, categories would encourage
more local content. Making the top part "Local" (and therefore more
emphasized), and the next "non-local", would be rad. A continuation of
these categories could look like this:
"1) Local ------ Local news from Olympia to Bellingham
2) National ------ What's going on in the rest of the U.S?
3) International ------ What's news in Asia, Africa and Latin America?
4) Rants/Opinion ------ It may not be news ... but it may be important ...
5) Actions ------ mass actions and/or public political meetings
6) Indymedia evolution ------ policies, principles and evolution of Seattle
Indymedia (including software) "
We want to do this soon, but don't have the tech savvy to accomplish it.
We're thinking that 2 or more people who can commit to taking care of this
would be awesome. *You need to know or be able to learn *
**
*(a) MIR (a Java-based open source content management system), and
(b) POSTGRES SQL (an open source database system)*
What we really need is a couple people who know something about those
languages, which would probably make this really easy. In the future, we're
hoping to overhaul the site using a newer or diffferent content management
system.

the idea
Please email back the list (or if you want, my address) if you can help, or
know anyone who can.
Thank you!!
