This Saturday, Grannies will perform spoof of governator for spying on them
"The biggest political street theater ever west of the Mississippi" is scheduled to take place in Union Square at 2:30pm on Saturday August 13th. Raging Grannies from throughout California and the US will be joined by the recently released Tuscon Raging Grannies, the Ronald Reagan Home for the Criminally Insane, and others for street theater to say "No More Torture!"

KPFA WORKERS FILE COMPLAINTS ABOUT WORKING CONDITIONS
Women workers file complaints about station manager Roy Campanella
8/11/2005: Eight women workers at KPFA announced that they are filing complaints with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) against the station's General Manager, Roy Campanella II, charging gender descrimination and sexual harassment.

VACAVILLE RESIDENT CINDY SHEECHAN CAMPS IN CRAWFORD
Mother of killed soldier demands that Bush tell her why her son died
Last week, Vacaville resident Cindy Sheehan decided that she would pay a visit to George Bush while he is on vacation at his ranch in Crawford. Sheehan's son Casey was killed in action in Iraq on April 4th, 2004. Ms. Sheehan arrived in Crawford on August 6th and plans to camp out until he tells me why my son died in Iraq. Ive got the whole month of August off, and so does he.

MADERA DEMANDS JUSTICE FOR EVERARDO TORRES
Everardo Torres
A march and rally was held in Madera California (about 20 miles North of Fresno) demanding justice in the murder of Everardo Torres. Torres was killed while handcuffed in the back of a police car. Madera police officer Marcy Noriega shot him through the heart at point blank range.

Israeli settlers to be removed from Gaza strip
On August 15th, Israel will start removing settlers from the Gaza Strip. SAN JOSE POLICE TO PRESENT LIMITED TASER REFORMS TO CITY COUNCIL
San Jose police do not recommend getting rid of tasers
The San Jose Police Department Chief presented its limited Taser training and tracking recommendations to the city on Tuesday, August 9th at a San Jose City Council meeting. The City Council had a long day of HYPERLINK "http://www.indybay.org/news/2005/08/1758576.php" meetings that began with a 1:00pm ceremony. ??The Taser recommendations are in response to the Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury's report on tasers.

PROTESTS IN LIVERMORE, AND NATIONWIDE, TO DEMAND ABOLITION OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS
60th anniversaries of atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to be marked in US
Marking the anniversary of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, HYPERLINK "http://www.indybay.org/news/2005/07/1753880.php" a protest was held at the Livermore Lab on August 6 calling for an end to nuclear armaments. Demonstrators planted sunflowers at the gate to the Lab, the flowers being a symbol of nuclear protest.

FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS JUSTICE FEST 2005
August 6th festival celebrates life of Eric Kleemeyer
The "Forever in Our Hearts" Justice Fest 2005 was held at Saint James Park in downtown in San Jose on Saturday, August 6th, from 2pm to 9pm. The event featured rock bands in the afternoon, funk bands in the evening, and exhibits such as the Stolen Lives Wall. The event was organized in memory of Eric Kleemeyer, who was killed by Santa Clara police in January.
