MUNI FARE HIKE PROTEST

A rally called by the Coalition for Transit Justice was held Monday on the steps of San Francisco City Hall to protest a proposed MUNI fare hike. The current fare of $1.25 would be raised to $1.50, placing more of the burden on the poor working class of the city.

A town hall meeting was held on Wednesday, Jan. 26th, to discuss the use of herbicides in wildfire prevention on city-owned property in the Oakland
hills. East Bay Pesticide Alert and Stop Toxic Trespass attended and demanded "non-toxic methods only" at the meeting, which was organized by the Wildlife Prevention Assessment District and Oakland Councilwoman Jean Quanon.

Critical Resistance and All of Us or None held a protest to cite Oakland mayor Jerry Brown at his loft apartment on Jan. 26th for harassing and scapegoating the people of Oakland. The protest gathered from 9:30pm to 10:30pm outside the former Sears Building at 27th Street and Telegraph in Oakland. Brown's latest idea is to impose a curfew on probationers and
parolees -- arresting them if they leave their homes between 10pm and 6am.

University of Colorado Boulder Professor and longtime American Indian activist Ward Churchill has come under increasing criticism recently because of his view of why the September 11th events happened and could occur
again. Prof. Churchill was scheduled to speak at Hamilton College in New York state this Thursday, and family members of people who died in the 9/11
incidents have been protesting his right to speak.
