--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's that time of the month again.
Kick back and relax after an exhaustive three days protesting the
anti-climatic outcome of the 2004 election with another screening from the
ladeez of CUNextTuesday! But, first...

************************************************************************ A
little pre-election shorts program to get you pumped up for the Big Day!
MONDAY, Nov. 1:
7pm - District 1 screening, FREE
Univ. of San Francisco, 2130 Fulton St., Cowell 325
The race for District One supervisor is the most hotly-contested race in
the city right now, one in which the deep pockets of downtown have
funneled thousands of dollars into a campaign to oust progressive
incumbent Jake McGoldrick from office. Come out Monday night to see a
series of shorts on each candidate, with a candidate forum to follow, and
decide for yourself. Stick around for.. 9pm - "One Last Jab at Bush" -
check out election segments from Street Level TV and general anti-Bush
propaganda, gore and anti-capitalist fun with a jam-packed screening that
will segue nicely into your pre-election drinking... For directions:

FRIDAY, Nov. 5:
8pm - CUNextTuesday screens "DAISIES", $5
Artist's Television Access, 992 Valencia St., SF
http://atasite.org/calendar/?x=1047
Two girls named Marie see the world around them to be inhabited by a
spoiled society. The Maries decide they should be given such allowances
and embark on a rebellious streak of what seem to be harmless pranks.
However, each of their decisions is loaded with consequences that soon
snowball into serious trouble. Yeah, chaos! This freewheeling 1966 gem of
the Czech New Wave is an attack on consumerism and materialism as well as
many other aspects of the male-dominated society of the time. Director
Vera Chytilova weaves together this absurdist allegorical work by avoiding
a common narrative structure - instead DAISIES fills the screen with
surreal comedy and unforgettable images of ranging misguided youthful
protest to serious political commentary. 74 minutes

also showing:
Shy Grrrl
by local filmmaker, Lori Rillera
This short was produced in a Silence Speaks digital storytelling workshop,
a program of the Bay Area-based media training and production resource
center Third World Majority. In Lori's Story, a Filipina reminisces about
the abuse she has suffered at the hands of relatives and employers over
the years and how she has taken control of her own life.
