commercial means selling things for profit. non-commercial
entities can still sell things (as most non-profits, schools,
churches, etc. do).
indymedia videos have been sold since seattle.
if we had investors/shareholders and were selling things for
profit then we would be commercial.
also if the website was selling or promoting commercial products
then that would be commercial content on the website.
i think it's clear that we want both the website and the IMC as
a whole to be non-commercial.
but we can still sell or promote non-commercially. this
includes selling things to benefit the IMC and promoting other
non-commercial/non-profit independent media.
by the way we can sell things like t-shirts and videos and not
worry about sales tax as long as we paid sales tax. whenever
i've bought things for the IMC (which hasn't been often, but
i've bought things like t-shirts and PAL-NTSC tape transfer for
some videos from Argentina) i've always paid sales tax.
