BARRY MICHAELS ANNOUNCES CANDIDACY FOR NEVADA’S 3RD CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

IN 2006 ELECTION

Says Prison Experience Makes Him

Uniquely Qualified To Serve

For Release October 24, 2005. Las Vegas businessman Barry Michaels officially announced his candidacy for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District Saturday night (Oct. 22) at the Democratic Party’s Jefferson Jackson dinner at the Riviera Hotel.

In making the announcement Mr. Michaels said he feels he is uniquely qualified to represent the residents of Nevada. “Like many people, I know what it’s like to succeed and then to fail and succeed again. It provides a unique way of looking at life and I don’t think many other candidates can make that claim.” Michaels is a former chiropractor, airline CEO, and real estate developer with nearly forty years of entrepreneurial business experience.

“I’ve made it clear on more than one occasion that my life is an open book, mistakes and all, including the fact that I spent fifteen months in 1998-99 at the Nellis federal detention camp here in North Las Vegas. While not proud of any past misdeeds, ironically I believe my time there has made me a better, stronger and wiser person, certainly one whose priorities changed.”

Unlike most politicians, Michaels believes his life experiences allow him to better identify with “all the people,” and not just a few elites.

As a single parent of two beautiful daughters he knows what it is to have to struggle at times to make ends meet. And he knows how to handle adversity and turn it into an opportunity. “When I arrived at Nellis I lost no time and began spending nearly every free moment in their law library. Not only was I able to gain a working knowledge of the law but with that came a greater respect for it.”

After his release from custody, he enrolled at UNLV and earlier this year obtained his BA degree in political science. He is now actively working on his Masters degree in public administration. “It was at UNLV that I decided I wanted to play an active role in making public policy and thereby help more people achieve the American Dream.”
