DEMONSTRATIONS

Lebanon's ongoing conflict intensified and complexified Sunday when
Hezbollah put out a call for massive street demonstrations in Beirut on
Tuesday, March 8 to protest the departure of Syrian troops from the
country. Syria had announced a two-stage pullout of troops from Lebanon on
Saturday, in response to the massive rallies demanding Syrian withdrawal
that followed the death of former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.
Hezbollah led the armed resistance that forced Israel to end its
occupation of south Lebanon in 2000.
<a
