Aracruz logs Atlantic Forest revegetation area in Espírito Santo

This Friday (16/6), the transnational Aracruz Celulose began felling (with
27 machines) the Jacutinga Valley in Linhares - Espírito Santos (ES). The
valley is steep, and logging is taking place on the banks of the Farias
steam – which is prohibited by environmental laws. This revegetation area
for Atlantic Forest has already reached six metres and is located near the
farming community of Farias, comprising 300 families.

As Aracruz Celulose’s actions are illegal under Brazilian environmental
law, farmers from MPA (Small Farmer’s Movement), with little more than 10
families, blockaded the machines with their bodies, and succeeded in
stopping them por hora. The families tried to contact the Environmental
Police and also requested solidarity and assistance from other country and
city movements that form the Alert Network Against the ‘Green Desert’.
