Vatican threaten to sue against IMC

It was not possible to know who had published the pope's satirist photo on
Indymedia, this act has been a difficult prosecution for the media.



Rome - Who search for "Indymedia pope" on any searcher, will have the chance
to see in details one of the most important cases of online censures in
Italy. A history told on the web, on May 2005, and had as target Indymedia,
an independent media where had published a photo with the current pope in a
Nazis allusion (wearing a Nazis costume - minha opinião :-).



Yesterday Rome's justice formally asked the Judge to close the case founded
under the hypothesis of religious offence. The case closure is not because
they had recognized the speech freedom or the harmless image, it is because
they could not find who has published the photo.



To get the author's name the solicitors had to appeal to the international
laws together with Brazilian justice, the reason is that in Brazil the IMC
(Independent Media Center), where the Indymedia was born. However this has
not been enough to find the photo's author or the responsible for publishing
that has been done anonymously on the IMC, they have the habit of keeping
the access logon.



Does not need to say that still can find published many similar images to
the one that has been sued.
